an introvert on making friends

I found this picture on Facebook awhile back and decided to save it because of how honestly it lays out the way an introvert thinks. I am an introvert. If you knew me in high school and are thinking "No, you're wrong, you're totally an extrovert", let me tell you now - I was faking it. All those years of joining the pep squad and attending football games with a crowd of people and being wildly obnoxious at dances - totally and completely faking it.

5 and fighting

My daughter, Penny, is five years old. A 35 pound ball of unrelenting energy that bounces around our house from one interest to the next. My child has been blessed with a remarkable creativity, an intelligence and a will to accomplish everything she imagines. All of these things will suit her well as an adult. When it comes to force of will, she's like her mother. I, too, possess a will to have things my own way. A will that says I'm the authority, the one in charge.

Being alike in this has caused no end of strife in our home. My husband calls it the "unstoppable force meeting the immovable object."

I'm the mom but she doesn't falter. If I say one thing, it's immediately wrong. In her mind, she's an adult with wishes and demands that she is fully expecting to be fulfilled. In her mind, she is the final authority. And I can't leave it alone. I have to correct her.

updates and new additions

Sigh.

Good gracious, I did it again. I let more than a year pass by without blogging. I really am crap at keeping these resolutions I make. I set myself up and after awhile it just falls by the wayside. Because, you know, life and such.

I always have good excuses too. Like this last year my excuse was being pregnant and having a baby. You mean you would have liked to hear about my pregnancy and how sick I was? Maybe about the birth of my son Everett James? Or about how 36 hours after my water broke he finally decided to join us? You say you'd like to hear how handling two kids is affecting my mental state, etc?

Too bad. If there really is a demand for such a thing I might get around to blogging about it. But this year is about looking forward. Not back.

So off we go.

a new project

When I said in my last post that one of my goals for the month was a project, I really hadn't expected to get my hands dirty. I thought I'd sit at my computer, sort through pictures and create something interesting. Instead I bought a desk. Not what you were expecting right? Me either.

april's resolutions

I already feel like this month is going to be a bust and it's barely started, to the point that I almost hesitate to tell you my April resolutions for fear that I'm not going to accomplish any of them. March was very stressful and hectic with the move, causing most of those goals to be put on the back burner. "Taking time to be silly" and "being delighted" especially seemed to completely slip my mind when I got too overwhelmed, which was when I could have used those skills the most. But I'm trying to be consistent and make the time and be adaptable in spite of the stress I'm feeling so here we go with April's goals.
